Biography and Research Interests
Dr. Powers serves as the Peter C Gazes Professor of Clinical Cardiology and Co-Medical Director of the MUSC Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Powers is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Powers is a member of several professional societies and serves as Chairman of the South Carolina Heart and Stroke Care Alliance.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Dr. Powers, together with Dr. Peter Zwerner, and other partners is assisting in the implementation of an advanced clinical and training program in cardiovascular disease at the Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania—the first advanced cardiac and catheterization center in the country. The missions of this program are to assist in the training of local health care personnel to provide state of the art cardiovascular care to the people of Tanzania, and to provide MUSC trainees a unique opportunity for training in cardiovascular disease and the challenges of providing best possible care in this environment of limited resources and a unique spectrum of disease.
