The HHI Scholars Program addresses communication, cultural effectiveness, and health equity through participation in community based activities and faculty research. Through immersion experiences with members of the Hispanic community, students are able to better understand the link between culture and healthcare delivery as well as outcomes. Participation includes shadowing clinicians that have a high percentage of Hispanic patients, touring and working alongside community members of a migrant camp, and working at Rural Mission, a head start organization for children of migrant workers, as part of their community clinical.
